Health Ministries Team/Faith Community Nursing

"He sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal" Luke 9:2

The Mission of Health Ministries:

To empower each other by sharing knowledge,

encourage each other with our presence,

recognize the full potential of each individual,

bring hope,

promote healing,

reflect the compassion of our Lord,

and lift up the spirit through prayer.

What We Do:

Blood pressure screening:

The first Sunday of each month in the Upstair's Cafe between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. We provide a healthy morning snack.

Congregational Care Team:

We visit, call, &/or write to persons not able to regularly participate in worship services due to age, frailty, or disability. We extend loving care, friendship, and news of our church family to those we contact a minimum of once a month.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:

We use our hands and hearts, blessings and prayers, lovely and soft yarns to knit and crochet Prayer Shawls. These are given to comfort and hold close in a warm embrace those among us who are greiving, ill, or in despair. We also welcome the firstborn children of our church families with a baby blanket. We meet twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., room 202.

Monthly Health Promotion:

Blood Pressure Screening Sunday May 11, 2008, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Wellness Tip for May: Pray Often

Body: Meditative prayer sharpens mental clarity & memory, promotes rest, and improves respiratory and cardiovascular function.

Mind: Be alert to the many forms of media that distract you away from a daily awareness of Christ.  Intentionally focus on addressing God in prayer.

Spirit: "Praise the Lord from the heavens, Praise the Lord from the earth,... Let me praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted." Psalm 148

Walk in the Light, April 6 through May 25, 2008

Purposefully take steps to improve your well being.

We are participating in an 8 week walking program designed to motivate and encourage each one of us to exercise and reflect on God's word regularly.

Each week we individually read a portion of the missionary journeys of Paul, meditate upon a Psalm following the Protestant lectionary, recite a common prayer, contemplate a WORD TO REMEMBER, and tally up the miles we have walked.

Packets are available on Sunday mornings in the Upstair's Cafe.

For more information or to participate in this ministry, please email MaryBeth Gibson, R.N., F.C.N.
