will work together to CHANGE the WORLD
Community Service Day: Saturday, May 7
- Prepare lunches for St. Vincent's Homeless Shelter
- Bake muffins for St. Vincent's Homeless Shelter
- Make friendship bracelets for nursing home/hospital visits
- Construct a storage facility and pack bags for the Kettering Backpack Project
- Host a baby shower and conduct hearing/vision checks at St. Paul's
- Paint and work on maintenance projects at Booth House, Wesley Center, gateway Homeless Shelter and the YWCA
- Make bird houses for house-bound members and neighbors
- Clean-up at Camp Wesley in Bellefontaine, OH
- Clean Up the Christ Church Grounds

Feed 5000 Food Drive: Kick-Off Sunday, May 1
It’s easy to help feed a family of 4 for 2 days - just pick up a box(es) from the Welcome Centers on Sunday, May 1 through 15, shop for the items on the list and return your filled box(es) to the church. In the past 9 years, we have provided more than 106,000 meals to our neighbors in crisis. Or make a financial donation and we'll do the shopping.

Some startling statistics:

47% of children in the Kettering City School District are on free or reduced-price lunches.

Requests for emergency food are at an all-time high.

The unemployment rate in Ohio has almost doubled since January 2008.

The number of individuals in Ohio receiving food stamps has increased 38.2% since last year.
-
In our area more than 850 people are considered homeless and 39% of those are families with children.
- Malaria causes 350 million to 500 million illnesses per year and kills more than one million people.

In Africa, one child dies every 30 seconds from malaria.
-
There are 10 new cases of malaria every second in Africa.
What we're doing to help:
- We pack more than 400ackpacks with food to feed hungry elementary children in Kettering for the weekend.
- Now in our ninth year, Christ Church has provided more than 106,000 meals through Project Feed 5000
- Last year more than $25,000 was used to assist 160 families with emergency housing, utilities, transportation, food and medicine.
- 600 bags of clothing and personal care items were distributed to the urban centers we work with.
- More than $31,000 has been sent to UMCOR (United Methodist Committe on Relief) for Haiti and Japan relief efforts.
