Christ Church was organized on May 20, 1951 in Oakwood with forty charter members. The pastor was the Rev. Robert B. Foster. By the end of the year there were 125 members. The first permanent location was at the corner of Stroop Road and Far Hills Avenue.
In 1957, with a membership of 1,800, Christ Church moved to Shroyer Road. Eventually, the church sanctuary had to be expanded, an education wing added, and a picnic shelter built. In 1998, a new Activity Center was dedicated, and in 2000, an outdoor chapel.
Christ United Methodist Church is now a vibrant congregation with over 2,200 members who support and lead 120 ministries.
