  Barry

Barry DeShetler

Lead Pastor

Barry is the Lead/Senior Pastor at Christ Church and has been since being appointed here in July 2001. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Toledo majoring in elementary education. He received his Masters of Divinity degree from Dayton's own United Theological Seminary. His previous appointments were in Toledo, Columbus, and Cincinnati. Barry is married to Linda, who is a psychologist with the Veteran’s Administration. Barry says jokingly, "It's so very helpful and probably necessary to be married to somebody who can provide 24 hour mental health care – and for free no less!" Linda and Barry have two grown children, Ben ,who is married to Jennifer and lives in Atlanta, Georgia and Laura, who is married to another Ben, and lives in Portland, Maine. Barry and Linda are the happy and doting grandparents of Scott, Audrey, Ella, Evan, and Lauren. (Be sure to ask him about "Camp Bampa”.) Watching college sports, especially college football, and particularly Ohio State football is one of Barry's favorite pastimes. He also enjoys a good game of golf, so long as there is plenty of teasing and one mulligan per nine off the tee. His favorite pastime by far is playing full court basketball 2 to 4 times a week – almost always with people not as "chronologically gifted" as he is.

  Wayne

Wayne Botkin

South Campus Pastor | South

When Wayne moved with his wife, Tricia, from Kettering to Springboro in 2008 to be part of launching an extension of Christ Church, he knew it would be an adventure in faith. The most exciting part of starting a new campus ministry for Wayne was meeting new people, helping people get connected to God's love in new ways, and being part of seeing lives changed through God's transforming power. Although ministry has taken the Botkins many places and helped them be involved in people's lives throughout the Miami Valley, nationally in New York City, Chicago, and North Carolina, internationally in Mexico, South Korea and Russia, Wayne's favorite trip was with Tricia to tour Greece! To walk where the apostle Paul walked in Corinth, Ephesus, Philippi, and Thessaloniki was incredible. Wayne met Tricia at The Ohio State University where he played trumpet in the marching band and received his degree in Business Administration in Human Resources. In 2001 he received a Masters in Divinity from the Methodist Theological School of Ohio and served 15 years in youth ministry (6 at Christ Church) before he was appointed as the pastor to help start South Campus. He enjoys time with family, especially his nieces (one of who lives with him and Tricia), attending and cheering them on at various events. Wayne looks forward to meeting you and hearing your story and journey of faith!

  Steve

Steve Rudisill

Executive Pastor

Pastoral Ministry is a second career for Pastor Steve as he spent 20 years in sales prior to answering his call, predominantly at Johnson and Johnson in Pharmaceutical Sales. Steve strongly believes that the local church is still the greatest tool God uses to change the world. He is particularly passionate about the people who have had a bad church experience or have no church history at all and bringing them to know a life with Christ. He believes we have God given talents so that we can share them with others. His favorite saying is “We are blessed to be a blessing.” Steve is from the Dayton area and has been married to Tina since 1999. They are the proud parents of teenage sons Brady and Tate. Steve loves to perform music, is a huge super hero geek (prefers marvel) and is most happy if he is wherever his wife and kids are.

Then after an 11-year hiatus, serving in other ministry settings, he came back in a part-time, retired setting to do pastoral care and calling.   Scott

Scott Bergren

Program Director

Scott is an Air Force veteran of 33 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he and his wife Pam moved to Dayton and began looking for a Church home. It didn’t take long for them to settle on Christ Church where they have enjoyed membership since 2005. Since that time, Scott has served as an usher at the traditional worship service. He has also served as the Chairman of the Church Council and then later, Chairman of the Church Board. Pam is also active in the Church and volunteers her time to many Church activities. Scott and Pam enjoy walking, gardening and playing golf together. They have three married sons, all serving in the Air Force around the country, so they spend a great deal of time traveling to visit them. Seeing their six little grandchildren (three girls, and three boys) at the other end of the journey make the trips all worthwhile!

  allan

Allan Clarke

Praise Band Director | Kettering

Born and raised in a pastor's home, worship has always been a core part of life for Allan. His earliest musical memories are of sitting beside his mother on the organ bench while she played for rehearsals and church services. He built his first worship team with a group of talented middle school classmates, most of whom are still involved in ministry to this day. That humble beginning was the start of a life-long passion for leading worship, and putting together or playing in christian music bands. Growing up in the folk era of the 1960s he gravitated to guitar, banjo and upright bass… but his mother, and award winning pianist, made sure he also read music and played what she considered "a sensible instrument", the piano. Although competent on the keyboard, Allan considers his professional instrument to be the bass guitar. Throughout the 1970's he sang and played bass for well known regional groups such as the Sonlight Gospel Singers, Higher Ground, Living Water, and the Heritage Singers. Allan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast communications with minors in religion and music. His passion continues to be about creating immersive worship experiences where the presence of God is palpable. His dream is to create teams, skilled in music, media, lighting and drama to create a transcendent worship experience. Allan has a heart for the next generation… to see them catch a vision for extravagent worship in the local church and encouraging them to become active worship leaders. Allan was first invited to Christ Church to help launch our South Campus in 2008. Two years later, in the fall of 2010, he transitioned to Kettering Campus as PRiSM's director and has faithfully served at the contemporary service ever since. Along with his son, AJ, and wife, Heidi, Allan is proud of the PRiSM Team and the opportunity to worship together.

  Kim

Business Coordinator

Kim is originally from Syracuse, NY and came to Ohio to get her Bachelors degree from Marietta College in advertising and public relations. Upon graduated in 2000, she moved to Dayton in 2001 with her fiancé at the time, Seth. They wish they would have found Christ Church when they first moved here, but are a firm believers in God's timing and it wasn't the right time. The Praters attended Normandy church a few times and then stopped attending because they got busy planning for our out-of-town wedding in Buffalo. In 2007, Kim and Seth welcomed their son Benjamin into the world and life got even more hectic. Finally when Ben was almost 3 they started church shopping again and found Christ Church! The following weekend they attended South Campus and were skipping down the longest hallway known to man afterwards. The Praters found their church home and have been faithfully attending ever since! So, needless to say you will probably find Kim at South Campus on most Sundays as she loves to watch the babies and toddlers in the Cuddle Zone or make coffee and watch Seth play and sing in the worship band. Kim's work background is in graphic design, art, wedding planning, retail management and payroll processing. Yes, it is varied, but all of those areas have helped to shape her into who she is today. In spare time, when Kim is not writing calligraphy, she loves hiking with family (including dogs, Ruben and Sherman), practicing yoga, and scrapbooking.

  Kristi

Kristi Smith

Family Ministry Director | South

What makes Kristi feel most alive is connecting to God and people in real ways. She believes God's presence is most powerfully experienced in the honesty of our brokenness. There is no need to pretend or to try and impress her. She would much rather talk to you honestly about her struggles and God’s mercy. She has learned that religion does not need to be acover up for our sins but instead can be a chance to uncover God’s grace. From an early age Kristi dreamed of becoming a missionary and sharing God’s love. Through the years she has served as leader in youth, women’s, and singles ministries. She has also loved being a worship leader, Bible study teacher, and director of pastoral care. Her most challenging roles are that of being a widow and empty-nester. On October 4, 2011, Kristi became a widow when her husband died suddenly at the age of 48. This new season of life as a widow has placed her in a unique position to infuse others with renewed hope. Kristi is the bestselling author of “DREAM…a guide to grieving gracefully.” With a degree in Psychology and 30 years of ministry experience, Kristi has a solid knowledge of how the mind, body, and spirit work together. It is this spiritual perspective that transcends the traditional view of life and brings authentic power. (For more info about Kristi’s book visit dreamsmithbooks.com) As the Family Ministry Director at South Campus, Kristi begins the next stage of her life with new dreams in her heart. She says it is important to dare to dream, at any age and any stage. She loves live music, belly laughing, meeting new people, hanging out with old friends, and visiting her family.
